Veg Manchow Soup






History :


  • Manchow soup is a soup popular in Indian chinese cuisine due to its easy preparation and hot spicy taste. It is available in many restaurants and street food carts alike. Although the soup is named after Manchuria it does not resemble any that is normally found in the cuisines of the region. The origin of Manchow soup is Meghalaya.
  • It is a dark brown soup prepared with various vegetables, scallions and chicken thickened with broth and corn flour, and flavored with generous doses of soy sauce, salt, garlic and chili peppers. It may be both vegetarian or non-vegetarian. It can also be garnished with chopped spring onions, and served with crispy fried noodles.

Ingredient :

For Soup :
  • Fried noodles : ½ cup
  • Corn starch : 2 tbsp
  • Oil : 1 tbsp
  • Garlic : 2 tsp
  • Ginger : 2 tsp
  • Spring onion (chopped) : 2-3 tbsp
  • Cabbage (chopped) : ¼ cup
  • Carrot (chopped) : ¼ cup
  • French beans (chopped) : ¼ cup
  • Green pepper (chopped) : ¼ cup
  • Tomato (chopped) : 1 small
  • Soy sauce : 1 tbsp
  • Chili sauce : 2 tbsp
  • White Vinegar : 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder : ¼ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water : 2 cup
For garnishing  :
  • Spring Onion (chopped) : Green portion


Method :

  • First of all mix corn starch with ¼  cup water and keep aside
  • Now heat the oil in a kadhai and along with spring onion. 
  • Add ginger and garlic and saute for 2-3 minutes. Saute till they turn translucent.
  • Then add chopped cabbage, carrot, beans and pepper. Mix and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now add salt and black pepper powder, stir well.
  • Also add 2 cup water and stir. Add more water if required.
  • Once it starts boiling, let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Then add corn starch slurry. Before adding it into soup, do stir once.
  • Mix well and let it simmer or till soup thickens slightly.
  • Now add soy sauce, chili sauce and vinegar. Adjust the chili sauce to your taste. Mix well.
  •  It will take 3-5 minutes. Turn of the flame.
  • Remove the soup in serving bowl. Add fried noodles.
  • Serve the Veg Manchow Soup and garnish with spring onion.
