Bataka Poha :





Timing :

Ingredient :

  • Poha (flattened rice) : 1 cup
  • Potato (boiled) : 1 medium
  • Green chili (chopped) : 2 
  • Oil : 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds : ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds : ½ tsp
  • Pinch of  Asafoitida 
  • Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
  • Sugar : 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves : 5-6
  • Lemon juice : 1 tsp
  • Peanuts (roasted) : 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
For Garnishing
  • Pomegranate seeds : ¼ cup
  • Coriander leaves : 1 tbsp


Method : 

  • First of all, take poha in a strainer and clean it by keeping it under water. Soak poha until they turn soft. 
  • Now, Heat oil in kadai on medium flame. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, pinch of  asafoitida and curry leaves and allow them to crackle.
  • Add chopped green chili and roasted peanuts and saute for a minutes.
  • Next add boiled potato, turmeric powder and salt to taste and mix well.
  • Add sugar and cover for 5 minutes and allow to cook potatoes on medium flame.
  • Add the soaked poha and cook on medium flame.
  • Mix well and add lemon juice. Cover and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Bataka poha is ready. Garnish with Pomegranate and corriander leaves.
  • Serve hot Bataka poha with evening masala chai.





Tips :

  • Make sure that you do not rinse it too much or else it breaks and gets mushy. 
  • You can also add chopped onions in this Bataka poha.
  • Adding sugar is optional. You can skip it completely if you don't prefer a slightly sweet taste in the Bataka poha.
